Welcome to Safe Gentle Place.  You are probably here because you have been raped or someone you know and love has been raped and you want to help them!  Congratulate yourself on making the first step to rebuilding your life after the trauma of rape.

You are safe here and you should remember that.  You will be believed and helped.

You are probably feeling all kinds of different feelings now including anger, denial, guilt, shame, dirt... the list goes on.  All of these feelings are perfectly normal - you may experience all of them or just some of them.  There is no right or wrong way to be feeling right now.

The journey ahead is going to be a long and tough road so be sure to have lots of close family/friends who you trust around you.

The main thing is to just be gentle with yourself.  I've done this website because a few years ago I was raped too.  Although I still have a long way of the journey left, I never ever thought that one day I would be here doing a website like this.  But I am.  I got the support of family and friends that I needed and they have all helped to get me to where I am... and continuing to go. 

I would like to take this opportunity to thank my family and friends who have stood by me and walked the journey with me.  I'm sure it hasn't been easy for them either to be at the end of my feelings and behaviours but I would like to extend my sincere thanks each and every one of them who have got me to this place today.  Two very special people who walked most of the journey with me are Claire and Maria who are sadly no longer with us, but my sincere thanks go to them for giving me the will to carry on ~ I will make sure I get to the end of the road for them and be in the place they have wanted me to be for so long.

I hope and pray you will find it within yourself to trust someone or a small group of people to help you.  That will sound like a mountain of a task at the moment but be gentle with yourself and take everything one step at a time.
